Living lavish, eating fresh fruits, and cabbage. That is my American Dream. It would be me with a stable job with great pay that supplies more than enough to supply a family. I would wake up every day knowing I have a job I love to do and at the end of every nine to five, I could go home and relax and enjoy the fruits of my labor. All my wants/needs would be satisfied, if I wanted that brand new widescreen TV, I could go out and get it. I would be supplied with riches to fulfill any of my wishes.
Unfortunately, not all dreams can become a reality. The circumstances of this time era limit the possibilities of living any American Dream. “Among 2011 law-school graduates, half could not find a job in the legal field nine months after finishing school” (Generation Screwed). Statistics as such shine on the problem of today. No job market means no jobs, no jobs means no money which concludes to no type of American Dream to be realized. If people who go to school specifically for their job, yet can’t even get hired nor find a job, what does that say for the rest of us? Nothing because there possibly is nothing left for the youth to reach their American Dream.
On the other hand, there is another problem that affects people individually. Their addiction to technology, “Recently, scholars have begun to suggest that our digitized world may support even more extreme forms of mental illness” (iCrazy). Except is that really true? Depending on how technology is used, it can also supply an individual with legitimate and infinite knowledge. Although does the average teen really spend time on the internet reading a bunch of facts, or are they just socializing in the cyber world, usually it’s the latter of the two. Could technologic addictions drain a human mind? Possibly in some cases, but most likely we’ll still be the same person our friends knew us as the day before.
Ultimately, reaching my American Dream is solely based on ambition. If you really want to be a success, then strive to be the greatest success story there ever was or will be. It is not a matter of facts or statistics; it is a matter of how far you will go to obtain your goals. Sitting around and waiting for your dream to manifest itself in front of you will get you nowhere, hope and dreams are two things that will never bring you a step closer to living your or my American Dream. If you want to live in this fantasy of an American Dream then you better go out and get it yourself.
